Episode 005 Chantill Lopez, Get Curious to Get Clarity
Thank you for listening to the Mindful Movement podcast. This weeks episode includes a vulnerable moment where I share a learning experience. Then I get right into the interview with Chantill Lopez, the founder of Skillful Teaching, an international online resource for Pilates Instructors. Chantill opens up to share her vulnerable story of changing careers, making big decisions about growing her business, as well as transitioning through a period of time where she found herself hating teaching. She shares how using mindful practices helped her to get clarity and evolve her career to align with who she was evolving into.
Chantill says, “Teaching is my thing, its what I was meant to do.”
“Moving was the way I experienced myself, it was the way I knew myself, it was the way I could really tap into what was going on for me emotionally and psychologically.”
“It is very frightening to feel like you don’t love the thing that you thought that you loved.”
One question that Nora St. John asked Chantill many years ago, and Chantill asked me and continues to ask both beginner and novice teachers is a repeating theme in all of what she does. The question is, “What kind of teacher do you want to be?” This question was a huge catalyst to the development of this podcast, the growth of the teacher training program and mentor program that are currently offered at my studio. Do you know the why of your teaching career? The “why of teaching” is what is going to create a fulfilling career rather than the What of your teaching? Dig into this topic during the 28 day online course with Chantill that starts this January 8th. This question is about establishing a habit of self-inquiry that will bring you to clarity.
Additionally, Chantill and Anne Bishop of Body Brain Connect have developed A masters level program: The Science and Psychology of Teaching. The perspective of teaching from brain science as well as building relationships will be covered in this part live, part online, project based program. Join Chantill and her co-leader of the program, Anne Bishop for a q & a on one of the two dates: Saturday, January 7th, 10am PST OR Friday, January 20th, 4pm PST. Chantill’s definition of Mindfulness: “Mindfulness is about being awake, being receptive to how you are interacting in the world.” “Mindfulness, to me, is about curiosity.”
