“Hypnosis is a normal and natural way of knowing your inner self and augmenting it with virtues like self-belief.”
ā Dr. Prem Jagyasi
Hey there, Everyone. I’m back today with a few more hypnosis myths (and their accompanying truths) for you. (The last batch was so fun to write about I thought I’d give it one more go.)
When you’re struggling in your life with stagnation, lack of motivation, poor decision-making, no confidence, or relationship roadblocks, it helps to have a mosaic of resources at your fingertips.
Hypnotherapy can be one of those (very effective) resources. I’ve watched my clients grow, transform, and evolve more quickly with this gentle and effective tool than they can on their own.
Please enjoy learning more about this healing and nurturing practice–and be sure to check out this playlist of guided hypnosis practices, this playlist for more hypnosis resources, plus connect with me for a hypnotherapy consult.
Myth: You’ll lose touch with reality during hypnosis
Truth: Studies show that you maintain awareness of your surroundings even though you feel relaxed and focused on the hypnotist’s voice and suggestions. You’re in full control to come out of the session whenever you like. You are simply in a physically relaxed state where your nervous system senses that you are safe so that your conscious, thinking mind can rest. In this state, you can connect with your subconscious mind, emotions, and beliefs.
Myth: I’m un-hypnotizable
Truth: If you WANT to enter into a relaxed trance state to work with your hypnotherapist, you CAN. Sometimes responding to hypnotic suggestions may take a little practice–and we accomplish this with positive reinforcement and motivation to increase your suggestibility.
And if it’s not something you want to do, you likely won’t be highly suggestible. BUT, even people with a greater propensity toward a trance state still retain their power of choice during and after a session. Remember, you’re always in control of your actions before, during, and after each session.
Myth: You must have flawless focus for hypnosis to work
Truth: Your suggestibility does NOT depend solely on your focus. We establish a trusting and nurturing relationship before and during the session. That’s all I need to help you uncover and address your limiting beliefs. Hypnosis can also help you re-pattern harmful behaviors without perfect focus.
Myth: I won’t be able to resist a hypnotic suggestion
Truth: Hypnosis doesn’t make you a robot. Remember, you’ll continue to make decisions and behave according to your values and circumstances, regardless of the suggestions you’re given during a session.
Hypnosis can help you begin to dismantle harmful or toxic self-beliefs so that you have more agency to make DIFFERENT choices moving forward.
